Macramé and its art.

Have you ever tried this practice?

We all have different ways of managing stress, healing, and engaging in activities that help us relax or calm our anxiety. One of these is the art of macramé.

Have you ever tried this practice or heard anything about macramé?

Don't worry, here is everything you didn't know about this craft and its benefits.

"Macramé" is the technique of creating textiles using decorative knots. The word comes from Turkish and means "knot," derived from the Turkish word "makrama."

It is a very ancient art form that uses the hands. Its origins date back to 2300 B.C., when the Arabs used it to decorate the edges of rugs. After bringing this design to Europe, Europeans brought it to the Americas.

The most common materials used for this activity are cotton, jute, linen, silk, and synthetic fibers. These cords are attached to a wooden dowel to provide stability, allowing you to begin weaving or crossing the cords in various patterns.

This technique consists of three basic knots: the half knot, the square knot, and the lark's head knot, from which fifty different variations are derived for the many designs you can create.

Through macramé and the consistency of tying knots in repetitive patterns, we know that this activity can be used as a form of meditation, as it brings us calm and well-being. It allows us to get to know ourselves, stimulate and unleash our creativity, and generate and develop new skills, all while breaking through our limitations.

By acquiring this skill, you are learning a new form of expression by connecting your hands and your mind, experiencing that sense of self-discovery.

Macramé is not just a decorative art, but an activity that can promote mental health and well-being through its creative and meditative process. In addition to what we have already mentioned, you can add all these benefits:

1. Improves your attention and concentration.

2. Improves your motor skills and coordination.

3. Helps you disconnect from the digital world and grounds your mind in the present.

4. Creates a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

5. Activates our creativity.

6. Reduces the stress and chaos of daily routine.

By implementing all these benefits, after a while, you will feel full of calm and experience deep gratitude toward yourself for making yourself your number one priority in life.

If you want to learn more about this technique and start delving into the world of macramé to include quality time in your daily life by connecting with yourself, we look forward to seeing you at our next workshop, which will take place on Tuesday, August 13th in Casa Morelos, on the terrace. We’ll have sweet pastries and hot chocolate to sweeten the afternoon.

It will be three hours full of calm and plenty of learning, so invite your friends, partner, mom, or—why not?—enjoy an activity all to yourself where you can learn new things and expand your circle of friends by meeting people who share your interests.
