The neighborhood

One city, four ways to live it.

Barrio México doesn’t live at a single address. It is spread across Americana, Centro, Santa Tere and Chapalita: four different corners of the same city, joined by the same sensibility.

Each neighborhood has its own feel: some wake up with the market, others light up at night. These are the streets where the houses live.

Colonia Americana — Av. Chapultepec at sunset
Colonia Americana

The one that’s alive at all hours.

It was founded in 1898 as Colonia Porfirio Díaz. It changed its name with the Revolution, slept for half a century and woke up house by house. Today Time Out names it the coolest neighborhood in the world: 128 years stacked in French-style mansions, art deco and Mexican modernism.

By day: galleries, specialty coffee shops and chef-driven kitchens. As evening falls: a nightlife that never switches off along Chapultepec and Américas.

Historic Center — plaza and church at dawn
Colonia Centro

The old town.

The Centro carries the weight of another century: churches, plazas and markets among quarry-stone façades. Twenty minutes on foot from the Americana, it’s a neighborhood to explore on foot, unhurried and with your camera always at hand.

Santa Tere — market and neighborhood taquerías
Colonia Santa Tere

The one you walk early.

A working-class neighborhood from the 1930s, today one of the liveliest in Guadalajara. The market opens at six; the taquerías, mezcal bars and wood-fired bakeries keep its rhythm going all day long.

Chapalita — tree-lined roundabout in a garden neighborhood
Colonia Chapalita

The garden neighborhood.

The city’s first modern subdivision: roundabouts, wide sidewalks and old trees. A neighborhood of long after-meal conversations and unhurried cafés, far from the noise of downtown and very close to Expo Guadalajara.
