Art in June.
Three must-visit spots in the city that celebrate the richness of contemporary art in Guadalajara.

Summer has arrived in the city, and it’s the perfect time for plans away from home, though we know it’s a bit too hot to spend most of the day outdoors.
That’s why we’ve taken on the task of sharing three must-visit spots in the city that celebrate the richness of contemporary art in Guadalajara.
These are places with temporary exhibitions that offer a deep look and unique collections, in addition to special events scheduled for the month of June, making them essential for exploring the city from a cultural perspective.

MURA.
The first one on the list that you absolutely have to visit is MURA, Raúl Anguiano Museum of Art, an institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the work of the prominent Mexican artist, as well as fostering modern and contemporary art.
This museum houses a collection of works by Raúl Anguiano—drawings, paintings, and engravings—that reflect his commitment to representing rural and indigenous Mexico. Additionally, you can find other collections by great artists such as Leonora Carrington, Rufino Tamayo, and Gabriel Flores.
The MURA features three exhibition halls, one of which is focused on children, called “Niño Anguiano,” which seeks to foster an interest in art from an early age. It offers a variety of cultural and educational activities, such as workshops, summer courses, film series, and educational and training programs, with the goal of bringing art closer to the community and encouraging reflection on contemporary artistic practices.
One of the temporary exhibitions you can find this month is “Young Creators 2025,” curated by Ricardo Mejorada. “A look at the artistic creation of emerging artists, bringing the work of these up-and-coming creators to the public.”
What are you waiting for? Stop by and discover one of the most culturally significant museums in the city.

OCCIDENTE GALLERY.
This space is a true tribute to Mexican art and design: a gallery where furniture, lighting, and decor converge in one place. It’s safe to say it’s the perfect spot for design lovers.
Curated by Ana Elena Mallet, a specialist in modern and contemporary design, it brings together over twenty renowned Mexican design brands under one roof. This pioneering gallery, known for its impeccable taste, opened in 2023 and has established itself as the city's first gallery focused on utilitarian design.
Located on Mexicaltzingo Street in the Colonia Americana neighborhood, you have to explore Galería Occidente with its broad and innovative selection of brands like Acacia, Mexa, Piedrafuego, and Cúmulo, all of which stand out for their experimentation with materials and the fusion of traditional and modern techniques, always with a profound aesthetic.
On the last Tuesday of every month, they present a project in collaboration with Mexican designers, who participate in conferences, roundtables, talks, or community dialogue sessions. Space is limited and requires prior registration, so keep an eye on their social media to find out who the next guest will be and don't miss the chance to be in the front row.

MUSA.
The University of Guadalajara Museum of the Arts is a must-visit for appreciating contemporary art in the city's metropolitan area.
This historic space, which houses the Rectory of the University of Guadalajara, is one of the most important cultural venues. It has established itself as a dynamic hub for the promotion of contemporary and modern art.
It is known for the quality of its temporary exhibitions and its imposing neoclassical architecture, especially the majestic murals by José Clemente Orozco. It is a space that promotes dialogue and art education through workshops, talks, concerts, and guided tours.
MUSA doesn't just exhibit art; it provokes, questions, and celebrates it. One of its most recent temporary exhibitions is “Ser Agua” (To Be Water), an immersive installation by Antuan Rodríguez, curated by Marisa Caichiolo, which transforms a museum gallery into a space for connecting with the essential. You have to visit and experience the exhibition for yourself!
